« Šams al-Dîn al-Ḫafrî's (d. 1550) Last Work on Theoretical Astronomy », in : N. Pourjavady & Ž. Vesel, éds., Sciences, techniques et instruments dans le monde iranien (Xe-XIXe siècle). Téhéran, Presses Universitaires d'Iran / Institut Français de Recherche en Iran, 2004, pp. 55-66.
The author first summarizes the most important results of two earlier publications of his (in Journal for the History of Astronomy 25 (1994), pp. 15-38, and in Perspectives arabes et médiévales sur la tradition scientifique et philosophique grecque, edited by A. Hasnawi et al., Leuven (Peeters) 1997, pp. 105-122), in which he showed the originality of the cosmological work of the 16th-century Iranian astronomer Shams al-Dīn al-Khafrī with respect to that of Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī and Quṭb al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī. In this article he identifies and describes another work by al-Khafrī, entitled Kitāb al-hay'a, of which the unique copy is kept at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut. This work seems to contain the most essential parts of al-Khafrī's earlier and much longer commentaries on al-Ṭūsī's Tadhkira and al-Shīrāzī's al-Tuḥfa al-shāhiyya.
