1Heidarzadeh presents in this paper results about social aspects of scholarly life under the Ottomans, Timurids and Safavids, in particular the support of rulers for scholars and movements of scholars between different regions, cities and patrons. He gives lists of scholars born in Ottoman territories who studied in Iran and vice versa. He links the movements to events of political and religious history such as the breakdown of Timurid rule or the enforced conversion to Shi’ism under Isma’il I. The historiographical concepts and reasoning used by the author are not always convincing.
